safeTALK Training

FreesafeTALK is a three-hour suicide alert workshop. This session is free to attend as it is funded by the Ballarat & District Suicide Prevention Network, through a community grant from the Central Livestock Exchange.
This event is supported by the Ararat Suicide Prevention Network, AME Systems and the Grampians Pyrenees Primary Care Partnership.

Training is important for everyone over the age of 16, so our community is aware, alert, informed, capable and responsive to prevent suicide.

Attend a safeTALK session to learn how to:
- notice and respond to situations where thoughts of suicide may be present
- provide practical help by using the TALK steps (Tell, Ask, Listen and Keep safe)
- act quickly to connect the person with someone trained in suicide intervention
- contribute to building a safer community
Did you know:
- approximately 70% of people who die by suicide are employed
- 50% of suicides are by people that do not have a mental illness, but experience complex life situations and are psychologically distressed
- male suicide rates are three times higher than females
- 8 people die by suicide in Australia each day
- it is estimated that for every death by suicide 30 people attempt to end their lives
- approximately 65,300 attempt suicide each year
- with every suicide approximately 135 people are affected by that death
