14/09/2019 at 11:00 am - 7:00 pm
FreeBring your family and friends along to celebrate traditional Mooncake Festival this year at Art Gallery of Ballarat.
The Mooncake Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, is one of the most important events in the Chinese calendar. Dating back more than 3,000 years. The Mooncake Festival is intended to celebrate the full moon that occurs in eighth month of the Chinese calendar. A notable part of the celebration is the carrying of brightly lit lanterns. Traditionally lanterns signified the wish for the sun’s light and warmth to return after winter.
This year the Chinese Australian Cultural Society Ballarat is celebrating this special occasion by launching a family and cultural oriented event on the 14th of September. Come and experience traditional moon festival activities including lantern making, lion dancing, cultural performances, Chinese brush painting workshops, etc.
The Chinese Australian Cultural Society Ballarat was formed in October 2008. The objectives of the Society are to enable current and future generations to learn the rich history and cultural practices of China, participate in activities within the wider community, promote goodwill and understanding through the Society and its members.
